We love working with groups! With a bit of notice we can make good use of your team. Get in touch and let’s make plans!
After your application we will invite you to attend one of our Induction Sessions. These sessions are designed to :
Wednesdays at 10 am, and last for approximately 30 minutes.
Wednesdays at 10:30am, for approximately 30 minutes,
or another time might be able to be organised.
Good communication, great listening, problem-solving and patience are essential. Handy skills are very welcome but if you want to learn, we can teach you!
Our name says it all, resilience and adaptability are important in our work. We do big work here, and patience, as well as care and compassion will help.
We do our best to organise well in advance but sometimes things won’t work out the way we planned them, and we will need to try something different.
Our team is a big one, with lots of moving parts. If you can’t make it to a shift we appreciate as much notice as possible so we can make other plans.
Our volunteers are an important part of our team, we need to know how to work together respectfully and how to resolve issues if they come up.
Disaster recovery can be hard, we will support you but it’s good if you know how to keep your chin up and keep smiling.
Arrive at the hub, sign in, meet the team and find out what’s happening today!
After some morning tea, help out with fixing someone’s house or answering phone calls at the Hub.
Lunchtime. Take a break, then check back in with your team leader for the afternoon shift.
The Hub closes at 3pm, and our field teams pack up and make their way back to Lismore around the same time.
Teams arrive back to the Hub, unpack the tools and sign off.
We are looking for reliable people who can work together as part of a team, we ask that you commit to your rostered shifts, and that you follow our code of conduct that outlines how we will work together respectfully. You will need to follow the directions of your team leader, and always keep yourself and others safe. You may be asked to undertake a criminal record check depending on the work you will be doing.
If you’re a Working Holiday Maker (WHM), you can count your work assisting in the recovery from natural disasters—as ‘specified work’. When volunteering with Resilient Lismore, please submit your visa application number and passport number in your application, so we can include it in the necessary documentation after your volunteer time with us. You will need to keep a detailed diary of each day you work. For more information about visa requirements, you can check out this link: Work and Holiday Visa Specified Work.
from the moment Samaritans Purse stepped into the Hub, we felt embraced and were treated as if we belonged. Our heartfelt thanks for all your support and the care and compassion you showed. We hope the small impact we have had in the community you obviously all care deeply about will help to continue the healing.

Thank you for your patience and care and for making every day so much fun. You all made this visa process enjoyable. I’ve learned so much from you but my most memorable lesson has been in how to truly show up for my community. Thank you

Yes! We ask that you wear appropriate clothing based on your role, and we will provide you with a Resilient Lismore t-shirt:
For the Repair to Return team: Please wear sturdy enclosed shoes, sun-protective clothing (no singlets), and a hat to stay safe and comfortable while working outdoors.
For work in The Hub: We ask that you wear neat clothing and enclosed shoes to help maintain a professional atmosphere.
While we recommend having your own transport to explore the area, we understand that it’s not always possible. There are public transport options available, and for any jobs organised by Resilient Lismore, we have team leaders who use our work vehicles to ensure you get to your destination safely.
We sometimes have shared accommodation available for our wonderful volunteers in a house here in Lismore. Availability can vary, so please reach out to us ahead of time to see if this is available. Our community also has Air BnB’s and other places to stay including caravan parks and motels.
We ask our volunteers to provide their own food. We have a refrigerator available to store food at the hub, and if you join the Repair to Return team there are eskies and coolers available. Tea and coffee is freely available for all our volunteers.
To fulfill the requirements of your 88-day visa, we’ll ask you to keep track of your volunteering days with a simple spreadsheet. Be sure to sign in and out each day at the Hub, and once you finish your commitment, we’ll provide a letter confirming your days and the work you’ve done. Just remember to provide your visa number and passport for our records. We’re here to support you!
The Northern Rivers is a special place, but we still have some way to go in our recovery from the 2022 disaster. Come and spend some time with us, and help us to help our community. You can make a difference.
