Innovation and deadlock in governing disasters and climate change collaboratively

Lesson from the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales, Australia (2024)

This study was conducted between 2019 and 2023 across the seven Northern Rivers LGAs. Its main aim was to investigate enablers and obstacles to local collaborative responses to the disasters and climate change during that period.

Three of the authors lived, worked and researched in the NR through the fires, the flood and COVID. They collected data from a lived experience research diary, 22 interviews, and notes from public hearings/meetings/events. The findings are useful to anyone working in disaster management, the community sector and climate change adaptation.

We Acknowledge

That we are living and working together to recover from this climate disaster on Bundjalung Country, and pay our deepest respects to Elders past and present.
